The Los Angeles River, once primarily seen as a concrete flood control channel, is undergoing a remarkable transformation. In recent years, there has been a growing movement to incorporate artistic elements into the revitalization efforts of the river. This creative infusion aims to enhance the river's aesthetic appeal, reconnect people with nature, and foster community engagement. I was given the opportunity to be a part of the the artistic aspects of the LA River to offer more than just visual enhancements and cultural experiences. Both of these tiles contribute to the overall art installation along the LA River by adding meaningful and visually captivating elements.

During my time working with Alessandra in 2021, I was thoroughly impressed by her dedication, ambition, and kind heart. She possess a strong work ethic and is constantly seeking ways to improve her knowledge and skills in the field of animation. She has a natural inclination towards 3D modeling and animation, as I had encouraged her to focus on this area during her internship with me, and she quickly became proficient in this area. Alessandra’s creativity and enthusiasm when it comes to animation is truly impressive, and she is highly organized and disciplined in her approach to her work.

UCLA Hammer museum Arts and Activism Internship

Through mentorship and collaborative workshops, Alessandra was part of a group of art interns that developed creative projects rooted in mindfulness, social awareness, and community care. Engaging with artists, Hammer and UCLA staff, and peers across generations, participants learned how art can provoke thought, spark dialogue, and foster change. With artist EJ Hill’s guidance, they created declarations, performance scores, and a publication—tangible outcomes of a powerful journey in art making as activism and self-discovery.

Long Beach Community Action Partnership Film Internship

Alessandra was part of the youth development at the Leadership ARTS Mentoring Program (LAMP), where creative arts intersect with leadership training for young people from underserved communities. As an intern, she explored how arts education, paired with value-based leadership development, fostered self-confidence and resilience.
